F.A.Q.

What has changed from the previous version?

The DeFelsko PosiTest PC has been completely redesigned as a dedicated stand-alone unit and is now part of the PosiTest family of instruments. No PosiTector gage body required.NEW Features Up to 4x faster measurement speed for moving lines and swinging parts Improved sensor technology allows easier measurement on small tubes, odd shapes and moving parts Ergonomic, one-handed unit is ready to measure right out of the box Storage of 999 readings with onscreen averaging. Stored readings can be downloaded to PosiSoft Desktop software. Scan Mode continuously takes measurements - ideal for analyzing large areas Easy-to-read digital display with simple, icon based menu Target Grid simultaneously displays distance to the part and alignment, making measurements easy Range: 20 to 100 µm (0.8 – 4.0 mils) Easy 1 and 2 point calibration adjustment options with Cal Reset to improve accuracy on unusual powders or substrates. No calibration adjustment required for most powders. USB Keyboard Mode emulates keystrokes to easily stream readings to a PC or PLC

Does the DeFelsko PosiTest PC conform to existing standards and test methods?

Yes. The DeFelsko PosiTest PC complies with ASTM D7378, “Standard Practice for Measurement of Thickness of Applied Coating Powders to Predict Cured Thickness”.

Why measure uncured powder?

Coatings must be applied within certain minimum and maximum dry film thickness specifications. But waiting to measure coating thickness after curing can result in product waste and production delays. Accurate measurement at the time of Eliminates over usage Improves quality Controls set-up Reduces rework & waste Saves money!

How does it work?

The probe uses airborne ultrasound to non-destructively analyze applied powder in seconds.

Is a Certificate of Calibration included with the DeFelsko PosiTest PC?

No. Certificates of Calibration show traceability to a National Standard and no uncured powder thickness standard exists at this time. The DeFelsko PosiTest PC Powder Checker is an in-process tool. To validate the DeFelsko PosiTest PC’s readings and confirm the final thickness meets specifications, measure the cured coating with a PosiTector 6000 or PosiTest DFT dry film thickness gage. Our dry film thickness gages include a Certificate of Calibration.

Is the DeFelsko PosiTest PC suitable for on-line applications?

Yes. The DeFelsko PosiTest PC has the ability to stream positioning and measurement data via its USB port, and can be integrated into on-line, automated applications with appropriate fixturing. To ensure the USB cable stays reliably connected, the USB Retention Fixture accessory is recommended.

Does the DeFelsko PosiTest PC imprint or dimple the powder?

No. The DeFelsko PosiTest PC is a non-contact instrument and there are no cables to accidentally brush and disturb the powder

Do I have to hold the instrument steady during measurement?

No. In fact, the DeFelsko PosiTest PC performs best when there is slight movement. It was designed to measure moving parts on swinging hooks.

Can the DeFelsko PosiTest PC store or print data?

Yes. The DeFelsko PosiTest PC can store up to 999 readings in one batch. Stored readings can be downloaded to PosiSoft Desktop software for record keeping and review.

What types of batteries are used?

The instrument uses 4 “AAA” alkaline batteries(included) providing 16 hours of continuous measurement.

Do your instruments require any formal training for use? Do you offer ‘demo’ models?

No. Our instruments are designed for simple operation, feature easy-to-use menus, both full and quick instruction manuals, and helpful videos. In lieu of demonstration models, we provide unlimited technical support via telephone and/or email, and a limited 30-day money back guarantee.
