Moisture Meters for Paper

F.A.Q.

What is a paper moisture meter?

A paper moisture meter is a precision instrument that measures the humidity of paper and paper products. Use of a paper moisture meter can prevent costly damages resulting from paper expansion or shrinking.

What is the standard of moisture in paper?

Moisture in paper gets measured as relative humidity, and most papers are designed to be stable at 45-55% RH in a 72°F environment. Typically, manufacturers produce paper to an absolute moisture content between 4.0 and 6.0%, meaning water makes up 4 to 6% of the paper's total weight.

How does a moisture meter operate?

There are two types of Moisture Meters: Pin-type Meters, which utilize the principle of electrical resistance, use wood or other hygroscopic materials as an element in a circuit by driving two pins or electrodes into it. Pinless meters use radio frequency signals to penetrate the material being tested. There is no pin intrusion into the surface of the material you are checking.

How do I keep a moisture meter in good condition?

Always store the meter in clean, dry place, change batteries as needed, and keep the meter clean by using any biodegradable cleanser sparingly on external parts only.
